Freehit on a television, with no app and no fee
There is no Freehit TV app, and none is needed: a television with a browser opens the site itself, any television takes a laptop over HDMI, and a phone can cast or mirror a match. Start with the one that fits the set; all three are free.
1Sets with a browser: Fire TV, Samsung, LG
Open the browser (Silk on a Fire TV, found under Apps if it is not on the home row; the Internet app on a Samsung; Web Browser on an LG), type freehit.st, choose a match and use the player's full-screen button. On a Fire TV remote, the ring steers the pointer and the centre button clicks.
2Any set: a laptop and an HDMI lead
Plug the laptop into the television (a USB-C to HDMI adapter if the laptop has no HDMI socket), select that input on the set, open freehit.st in the laptop's browser and go full screen. No Wi-Fi is needed at the television, and no smart features at all.
3From a phone: cast or mirror
Android to an Android TV, Google TV or Chromecast: with the match playing, pull down Quick Settings, tap Screen cast (Samsung calls it Smart View) and pick the set; turn the phone sideways for a full picture.
iPhone to an Apple TV or an AirPlay set: Control Centre, Screen Mirroring, pick the set, then open the match in Safari.
iPhone to a Chromecast or Android TV is not possible on its own; use route 1 or 2.
Questions
Android TV or Google TV with no browser?
Most come without one. A browser can be installed from the set's Play Store, but casting from a phone (route 3) or a laptop lead (route 2) is quicker and needs nothing new on the set.
The cast picture freezes or lags
Mirroring sends the stream across the home Wi-Fi two times, phone first and set second. A shorter distance to the router helps; the set's own browser or an HDMI lead sidesteps the problem.
The set's browser shows the page but no video
Wait a few seconds and press play once. If it stays dark, that browser is too old for the player; routes 2 and 3 work regardless.
Will there be a Freehit app for Android TV?
None is planned. If one is ever made, this page will carry its download and steps, starting with allowing an app from outside the Play Store. Everything above stays free either way.
